Winter Athletics Team Summaries

Men’s Basketball:

The Roberts Wesleyan men’s basketball team finished the season with a 3-24 overall record and 2-16 East Coast Conference record. The Redhawks posted two wins against ECC opponent Mercy College and got the third win against Mercyhurst University. 

Junior guard/forward Manny Joseph was the team’s leading scorer and rebounder averaging 13.6 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game. 

Women’s Basketball:

The Roberts Wesleyan women’s basketball team had an impressive 21-13 season but was unable to reach the NCAA Division II tournament after losing to NYIT in the first round of the East Coast Conference Championships. 

The Redhawks were able to advance to the NCCAA National Championships after winning the NCCAA Midwest Regional. Roberts earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament and brought home a third place finish.

Freshman guard Taya Andrews was named Third Team All-Conference, NCCAA Third Team All-American, and NCCAA All-Region. The Fort Wayne, Ind. native scored a team-high 503 points on the season. 

Junior Lucy Covley set an ECC and Roberts Wesleyan program record for three pointers made in a season with 107 in total. 

Women’s Indoor Track & Field:

The Roberts Wesleyan women’s indoor track and field team defended their team title winning the East Coast Conference Championship for the third straight year. Head coach Merl McGinnis was named the women’s Coach of the Year. 

Junior sprinter Chelsea Hayward highlighted the women’s indoor track and field team with a dominating season. Hayward was named an NCAA All-American in the 200 meters following a fourth place finish in the event at the National Championships (24.01). The Litchfield, Conn. native was also named the East Coast Conference Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year and the Most Outstanding Women’s Athlete of the ECC Championships. She was a first team All-Conference selection in the 60m, 200m, and 400m and an USTFCCCA All-Region selection. 

Men’s Indoor Track & Field:

The Roberts Wesleyan men’s indoor track and field team placed third this season in the East Coast Conference Championships. 

Freshman Josiah Ottolini was named Co-Athlete of the Year in the ECC following an impressive first year season. The Spring Arbor, Mich. native set an ECC Championship meet record in the 800 meter posting a first place time of 1:56.66. He also went on to win the one mile in a time of 4:20.12. In the NCCAA National Championships, Ottolini won the 800m with a time of 1:54.46.
