Redhawk Fall Sports Team Summaries

Men’s Soccer:

The men’s soccer team finished the season with a 4-11-1 record while posting a 2-7 record in the East Coast Conference. Despite the losing record the team stayed competitive in each game and saw growth and potential out of many young players on the team. The Redhawks played a tight match at home against LIU Post, who was No. 5 in the country at the time, eventually falling 1-0. 

Senior forward Malcolm Shaw was the leading point scorer with 13 goals and two assists. He earned ECC All-Conference Second Team honors, NSCAA All-American honors for the East Region and was named to the First Team NCCAA Midwest All-Region. 

Women’s Soccer:

In Sarah McClellan’s first season as the head coach of the women’s soccer team she led them to an East Coast Conference semifinal playoff berth while also posting a 10-5-2 overall record and 5-2-1 in the ECC. The Redhawks lost in the playoffs to Bridgeport who went on to win the ECC Championship. 

Senior midfielder Bella Mitrevksi scored ten goals and added six assists on the season and was named ECC All-Conference First Team. Mitrevski was also a D2 CCA First Team All-American selection, NSCAA First Team All-East Region, NCCAA All-American and was named the NCCAA Midwest Region Midfielder of the Year. In addition to her on the field contributions, Mitrevski held a 3.92 GPA, which earned her NSCAA Scholar Athlete honors as well as NCCAA Scholar Athlete recognition. 

Junior defender Taylor Fletcher was an ECC All-Conference selection and an NCCAA Midwest Region selection. 

Seniors Kiki Luedke, Courtney Hartnett, Jodi Kester and Mackenzie Kidder were all NCCAA Scholar Athletes. 

Volleyball:

After going just 2-23 in the 2015 season the women’s volleyball team improved to 9-15 in the 2016 season. They were also 6-8 in the East Coast Conference. Heading into the final stretch of the season the Redhawks were in contention for the final ECC playoff spot but were unable to capture it. 

Senior Alexandre Tahauri led the team with 220 kills on the season and Olivia Zureck led the team defensively with 412 digs. Setter Elisabeth Rivera dished out 820 assists. 

Men’s Golf:

The men’s golf team saw success in the 2016 fall season. The team placed first in the RWC Invitational held at Ridgemont Country Club. In that event senior Tom Kolb placed first overall shooting a 142 over 36 holes. Senior Caleb Edwards had the season’s low round score of 68 (-4). 

Women’s Tennis:

The women’s tennis team had a successful 10-8 season but was unable to make the conference playoffs. 

Alyssa Brault had a 14-4 singles record playing at the No. 4 spot and a 16-2 record in No. 3 doubles to earn her ECC Second Team honors. 

Cross Country:

The men’s and women’s cross country teams both finished first at the East Coast Conference Championships for the 2016 season, claiming the title for the third straight year. 

Both teams continued on to the NCAA DII East Region Championships where the men placed sixth and the women placed third. The women’s third place finish allowed them to continue on as a team to the NCAA DII National Championships in Saint Leo, Fla. The women came away with a 31st place finish at the National Championships. 

Coaches Andrew and Jennifer Dorr were named ECC Coaches of the Year. Senior Keith Pease was the ECC Runner of the Year for the men while freshman Josiah Ottolini earned ECC Rookie Runner of the Year. 

For the women, Elizabeth Valento was the top finisher for the Redhawks at the ECC Championships, Regional Championships and the National Championships. Freshman Megha Singh was named the ECC Rookie Runner of the Year for the women.
