The Roberts Community Mourns the Loss of Dr. William W. Walence

The Roberts Community Mourns the loss of our friend, Dr. William W. Walence, Faculty Emeritus of Adult Education and past-chair of Adult Professional Studies.  Dr. Walence began his career at Roberts Wesleyan College as Professor of Adult Education and Director of the Center for Adult Professional Studies in 2003, following a distinguished career as both a practitioner and educator.  During his tenure at Roberts Wesleyan, Dr. Walence contributed significantly to institutional efforts to form a faculty senate, restructure into schools, and develop innovative new programs.

He developed the Master of Health Administration program in 2006, and would go on to develop a Bachelor of Health Administration program and a Master of Health Informatics program before his retirement in 2013.  Dr. Walence was a champion of excellence, a pioneer in the development and delivery of applied, student-focused health administration programs and a recognized leader in his field.  His sense of humor, his faith and his ability to bring out the best in his students characterize his approach to life and learning.

The Dr. William W. Walence Award for Outstanding Health Care Organization Transformation was recently created in his honor and will be presented to one team in each MHA cohort that has done an outstanding job identifying a significant problem being faced by its client organization and in presenting an integrative strategic solution.  The first trophy was presented to him in recognition of his significant contributions to the healthcare industry in this region and his influence in preparing current and future practitioners for transformative impact in their healthcare organizations.

The entire Walence family remains in the hearts and prayers of the Roberts community.
