Robert J. Duffy, President & CEO of Rochester Business Alliance, to Deliver Spring Commencement Address

Robert J. Duffy, president and CEO of Rochester Business Alliance, will deliver the keynote address at Roberts Wesleyan College’s spring commencement ceremony. The event will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, in the Voller Athletic Center on campus, located at 2301 Westside Drive, Rochester N.Y. 14624. Nearly 500 students receiving undergraduate and graduate degrees — as well as family members, friends, faculty and staff — will be on hand to celebrate commencement and listen to Duffy’s presentation.

"We are thrilled to have Bob Duffy as our commencement speaker,” Roberts President Dr. Deana Porterfield said. “Roberts is a place where students, who are dedicated to service and spiritual formation, emerge as leaders, transformed and ready to impact the world. Bob Duffy is an incredible leader in our community, and it’s an honor to have him share his experiences, values and advice with our graduates.”

A Rochester native, Duffy began his new role as president and CEO of Rochester Business Alliance in January 2015. He previously served as lieutenant governor in Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration since January 2011. During this time, he chaired the regional economic development councils and the Spending and Government Efficiency Commission. He also played a major role in the Mandate Relief Council. Prior to his time as lieutenant governor, he served as Rochester mayor from January 2006 to January 2011 and as Rochester police chief from March 1998 to April 2005. Duffy joined the Rochester Police Department in November 1976.

Duffy holds two degrees from Monroe Community College, a Bachelor of Science from Rochester Institute of Technology, and a Master of Arts from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. In April 2013, he was listed as one of the 100 most powerful players in Albany by City and State newspaper.
