Dr. Russell Toth Recognized as the 2013 Graduate of the Last Decade

Russell_TothDr. Russell Toth ’03 was named the Graduate of the Last Decade on October 7th.  Toth is a Lecturer in the School of Economics at The University of Sydney (Australia).  He received a B.A. in Humanities from Roberts Wesleyan College as well as a M.A. in Mathematical Economics, Southern Illinois University-Carbondale (2005), M.S. in Economics, Cornell University (2009), and a Ph.D. in Economics, Cornell University (2012)

Toth could be described as a “citizen of the world”.  He was “called” to Roberts for his undergraduate education after meeting Professor Barbara Rose while on a mission trip in Romania.  He has lived in the United States, Canada and Hungary. Currently, he is teaching at the University of Sydney; working on economic development in Kenya and Indonesia with research scholars from major universities; and presenting papers around the world.

Toth’s superb intellect is tempered by insight, compassion, and reverence;hisis a gentle and gracious spirit far less concerned with winning a debate than with finding yet another way to figure things out. He embodies the very best of our Christian liberal arts tradition: openness to new ideas, depth and breadth of learning, Education for Character, and Ora et Labora (Pray and Work).

Toth has taken ideas by storm and turned them into reality wherever he has encountered them. His list of national and international professional associations, articles, presentations, awards, projects, and research grants is awe-inspiring.  And, not by chance he is committed to visions of global change.

Russell lives in Sydney with his wife, Sarah.
