Greater Access & Affordability for all Students

Many of you have heard about the New York State budget proposal for free college tuition and have asked for more information and what you can do. There are several aspects about this proposal we believe could affect Roberts Wesleyan College. Click to enlarge the graphic to the right, which shows the economic impact within our local community, then continue reading to understand what might be at risk if this proposal is approved.

Roberts supports greater access and affordability for all students but believes this proposal would negatively impact the economic structures of many communities. Roberts alone provides over $114M in economic impact within the local community and employs 830 (direct and spillover). It is hard to imagine the negative economic impact across the state if all 100+ independent institutions saw dramatic shifts in enrollment and employment. New York can continue to be a leader in Higher Education by reinforcing the strong historical partnerships, by supporting both public and private institutions, and student choice across the state.

If you would like to help, there are four things you can do:

  • Pray. We believe strongly that one of our greatest opportunities is to be in prayer for the future of Roberts Wesleyan College.
  • Watch this video, an interview with Mary Beth Labate, President of the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (CICU) here in New York State, to learn a bit more about the issue.
  • Visit www.LimitlessLearningNY.org to learn even more.
  • Consider sending a letter to your NYS representatives to urge a more effective legislation around education that does not limit student choice. Here is the direct link to “take action” and send an e-letter: www.limitlesslearningny.org/take-action/. Should you choose to take action and send an e-letter, you’ll want to act quickly – with the NYS budget due on April 1. Letters will be most effective within the next week. If your home address is outside New York State, please use the College main address.

Thank you for your interest, prayers and support as we continue to educate for character and impact the lives of our current and future students.
