Roberts Students Serve the Community with King For A Day Event

On Saturday, January 17, forty Roberts Wesleyan College students volunteered as part of the King for a Day event through RochesterCares. Our students served at three sites:

Mary’s Place Refugee Outreach

Volunteers interacted with children during crafts and games, assisted with teaching English language skills, helped refugees study for the US Citizenship Exam, and organized the book library.

Rochester Family Mission

Volunteers stocked, sorted and organized the food pantry here, as well as cleaned the kitchen, dining areas, and the bathroom.

InterVol/RUMS (Recycling of Unused Medical Supplies)

RUMS collects surplus unused medical supplies from local hospitals. Volunteers at this site sorted these items and repackaged them for shipping to third world health clinics. This project saves countless items from the landfill and delivers them to world citizens in need.

The “King For A Day” event provides an opportunity for people of all ages throughout Rochester to honor the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through community service. RochesterCares partners with several colleges in the area as well as the City of Rochester.
