Roberts Hosts Fifth Annual Matt St. James 5K Run/Walk

Proceeds from Event on College’s Cross Country Trails Will Help Pay for Wheelchair-Accessible Van

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Calling all runners (and walkers)!  The fifth annual Matt St. James 5K Run/Walk, the proceeds of which go to assist a former Roberts Wesleyan College runner who was felled in 2007 by an injury during track practice, takes place Saturday, Aug. 27, on the College’s cross country trails.

Proceeds from this year’s event – registration fees, pledges, t-shirt and refreshment sales, and donations – will go toward the purchase of a wheelchair-accessible van for St. James, who was able to return home in 2010 after more than three years at Monroe Community Hospital.  On March 14, 2007, the Churchville-Chili High School grad was running on the outdoor track at Roberts when he suffered a cardiac episode that resulted in the interruption of blood to his brain.

“Matt is such a great guy with a real heart for God who was always there for the people around him,” said event organizer Jessica Scribani, a friend and former Roberts classmate of St. James.  “This 5K Run/Walk is the least we can do for Matt and his family.  We’ve reached our first goal of seeing him come home, and praise God for that.  Matt’s continuing to show steady progress, and we’re hoping for a big turnout and a big show of support at this fifth annual event.”

The event starts at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, on the cross country trails at Roberts.  Registration is required and prizes will be awarded to the top finishers.  The registration fee is $20.00, or $15.00 if the registration form is submitted by Aug. 24.  Runners and walkers who collect $50.00 or more in pledges will have their registration fee waived.  All registrants will receive a Matt St. James 5K Run/Walk t-shirt.  T-shirts also can be purchased for $12.00.  And, of course, donations will be accepted.

Registration forms are available online at:  www.mattstjamesrun.eventbrite.com. For more information, contact Jessica Scribani at jscribani@gmail.com, or Amanda Sullivan Lemieux at sully033@yahoo.com
