ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Roberts Wesleyan College is pleased to announce that senior Music Education major Sarah Elliott has been named the 2010-11 Theodore Presser Scholarship recipient at Roberts Wesleyan College.  As part of this recognition, Elliott, from Watertown, N.Y., will perform a solo recital Thursday, March 31, in the College’s Cultural Life Center.

The Presser Undergraduate Scholar Award is awarded to an outstanding music major in, or near the end of, his or her junior year.  The student is selected by the College’s music faculty, with the choice of the recipient guided solely by consideration of academic and musical excellence and merit.  Accompanied by a grant provided by The Theodore Presser Foundation, the award is a prestigious one instituted to recognize excellence.  The recipient is thereby designated a “Presser Scholar.”

Elliott, who is studying voice and piano, is the pianist and a featured soloist for the RWC Jazz Ensemble.  Additionally, she accompanies the RWC Chorale and music students within the department, and has previously accompanied the RWC Gospel Choir.

Performances in which she has been involved include Handel’s Messiah as a featured soloist, and the annual Opera Scenes and “Jazz and Dessert” events at Roberts.  Elliott also serves as a Chaplain for the RWC Chorale, and is secretary of the College’s chapter of the National Association for Music Education.

Elliott’s recital begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Cultural Life Center’s Robert Shewan Recital Hall.  The event is free and open to the public.  Attendees should use the College’s Buffalo Road entrance.
