Roberts Alum Dr. Russell White To Discuss Medicine In Africa

Topics: "Medical Missions in Africa" and "Esophageal Cancer: The Most Common Malignancy in Kenya"

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Roberts alum Dr. Russell White, who has provided medical treatment and expertise in Africa for nearly 15 years, will be on campus Monday, March 7, for presentations related to delivering medical services and inspiration to populations in Africa.

Dr. White was born in the Belgian Congo to medical missionary parents.  He grew up in Northern Michigan, and attended Roberts Wesleyan College, the University of Michigan School of Medicine, and the Harvard University School of Public Health.  He later completed a general surgical residency at Brown University and a fellowship in thoracic surgery at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol, England.  Dr. White has served as the chief of surgery at Tenwek Mission Hospital in Kenya since 1997, where he spends the majority of his time.

At 11:00 a.m. Dr. White will speak on the topic:  “Medical Missions in Africa.”  The session takes place in the Andrews B. Hale Auditorium at the College’s Cultural Life Center.

At 4:00 p.m. he will speak on the topic:  “Esophageal Cancer: The Most Common Malignancy in Kenya.”  The session takes place in the Merlin G. Smith Science Center Auditorium, and is preceded by a brief reception at 3:45 p.m. in the lobby.

Both sessions are free and open to the public.  Visitors to both sessions should use the College’s Buffalo Road entrance.
