Activities Interest Survey

Getting involved in activities outside the classroom is one of the most rewarding aspects of college life. Take a look at the organizations listed below and select any or all of the opportunities in which you might have interest. If you do not see something listed that you are interested in, don’t despair! Feel free to contact Associate Dean Brenda Myrthil about the possibility of creating a new organization on campus. Student Association

  • Represents class and plan activities for the class. Officers are elected positions.

  • Produces a bi-weekly student newspaper to inform and enlighten students on current campus activities and issues on campus. Writers and photographers needed.

  • Produces an annual yearbook to document and preserve memories.

  • Provides sports and recreation throughout the year including soccer, flag football, dodgeball, water polo, basketball, volleyball, floor hockey, racquetball, ultimate frisbee, and an annual decathlon.

  • Promotes student activities on campus.

  • Represents the student body’s concerns and promotes positive change on campus.

  • Plans and implements campus-wide social activities.

Academic/Pre-Professional

  • Promotes interest in the Criminal Justice, Psychology, and Sociology fields, as well as a sense of fellowship among the students.

  • Provides a place for math and science students to come together and discuss issues in math and science.

  • Prepares future music teachers for their career.

  • Meets once a month to plan events and service projects and fundraisers for the academic year. Projects include BP screenings, events at local hospitals, fundraisers for trans-cultural trips, and social activities.

  • Promotes interest in the Psychology field, as well as a sense of fellowship among the students.

  • Promotes dialogue on important topics facing the field of education and teachers in the workplace, meets monthly, and plans service projects/fundraisers for local children.

  • Takes practical business skills out to the community to try to help make a difference in the lives of those around us. SIFE's motto is "Changing the World."

  • Furthers learning and social skills in the field of Social Work.

Cultural/Ethnic

  • Brings awareness and unity of the various cultures on the Roberts campus through social events, chapels, and other campus-related activities.

  • Enriches students with the Spanish language/culture through conversation and events.

Ministry

  • Leads a spiritual movement on campus, creating passionate followers of Christ who will lead others closer to the Lord.

  • Brings together a group of dancers with all levels of experience, who gather together to worship God through the art of dance. The purpose of Dance Ministry is to minister to the dancers as well as to those who watch their performances.

  • Promotes spiritual formation and displays the love of Christ on campus and in the community.

  • Seeks God by worshipping together, serving the outside community, and fostering spiritual growth through discussion groups.

  • Also known as “street ministry,” In Jesus’ Name feeds, clothes, and builds relationships with the homeless on the streets of Rochester.

  • Gathers RWC men to build accountability, know the Bible better, and discover how to become a better servant of God.

  • Cross-cultural experiences that allow you to communicate God’s truth and love through service, music, teaching, and relationship building. Past mission trip sites include Eastern Europe, Africa, Honduras, Chili, and Thailand.

  • Serves and shows Christ’s love to the residents of a local nursing home.

  • Ministers to teens of the 19th ward by providing an after school program with positive role models and mentors, homework help and tutoring, food, discipleship, sports, and games.

  • To learn and present American Sign Language (ASL) as a different form of praise and worship.

  • Gathers RWC women to build accountability, know the Bible better, and discover how to become a better servant of God.

  • Opportunity to be a part of the team which leads worship at Chapel.

Music and Performing Arts Led by Faculty

  • The brass quintet typically consists of two trumpets, a French horn, tuba, and a trombone. The group performs an array of styles ranging from early styles of baroque to modern music. The group rehearses once a week and performs in the chamber ensembles concert each semester, as well as the annual Christmas gala concert and special events.

  • This 40-voice ensemble is made up of students enrolled in the college's many majors. The Chorale rehearses 3 afternoons per week, performs one or more major concerts on and off campus each semester, and takes an annual tour each Spring. Students are selected by audition at the beginning of each Semester.

  • The clarinet choir is open to both music and non-music majors. The ensemble rehearses weekly and performs in the chamber ensembles concert each semester, as well as other special events.

  • The flute choir is open to both music and non-music majors. The group’s repertoire is very diverse encompassing everything from Baroque through 20th century, contemporary pieces. The choir also likes to add variety and expands on many pieces to include piccolo and alto flute, as well as the occasional appearance of the bass flute. The ensemble rehearses weekly and performs in the chamber ensembles concert each semester, as well as other special events.

  • Performs composed and improvised music derived from the American big band tradition; African American composers; contemporary classical music; and various ethnic traditions. Students are selected by audition at the beginning of the Fall semester. The Jazz Ensemble performs each semester on campus, as well as off-campus special events.

  • This ensemble draws 20-25 students from all majors and enjoys a unique blend of professional training in music with opportunities for creative expression in the spirit of fraternity. The Men's Chorus rehearses 2 afternoons per week and performs a variety of works drawn from the sacred, glee club, Broadway, pop, and seas chantey traditions. They perform a concert each semester, as well as special events on campus and in the community. Men are selected by audition at the beginning of each Semester.

  • Students are selected by audition and meet Friday afternoons from 5pm-6:30pm. The ensemble presents a full concert each semester.

  • Encourages students to participate in all aspects of a theatrical production including acting, production, backstage, set, and promotion. Types of productions include student-generated productions, one-act nights, original plays and musicals. Students who are enrolled in the Theater Minor can also get credit for some of this work.

  • Provides a musical experience that includes the highest quality orchestral repertoire in a supportive environment. The Orchestra consists of approximately 60 students and musicians in the Rochester area, and meets Monday evenings from 7:00-9:15 pm.

  • This quartet rehearses weekly and performs in the chamber ensembles concert each semester, as well as other special events.

  • Consisting of 45 members, the Wind Ensemble rehearses 3 afternoons per week, performs three major concerts each semester, and takes an annual tour for part of the February break. Students are selected by audition at the beginning of the Fall semester.

  • this choir is comprised of 30-40 women both majoring and not majoring in music. The ensemble rehearses 3 afternoons per week. The Women's Choir performs at least once each semester. No audition is required.

Music and Visual Arts Led by Students

  • Exposes the Roberts community to American Gospel music and provides students and faculty with another style of worship.

  • Female a capella performing organization.

  • Promotes unity among the fine art departments, fosters creative fellowship across the Roberts campus, and connects with the art community through interesting field trips.

  • Male a capella performing organization.

Special Interest

  • Responds, as followers of Christ, to the global AIDS emergency by way of prayer, direct service, awareness raising, fundraising, political advocacy, and more.

  • Student leaders who voluntarily serve Roberts in many capacities including giving campus tours, hosting prospective students, and representing the college at Admissions, Alumni, Development, and Career Services events.

  • Provides competition with good sportsmanship in the game of chess.

  • Raises ecological awareness and promotes good ecological practices on the RWC campus.

  • Provides students opportunities to participate in skiing, snowboarding, or cross country telemarking.
