Who may use ILL?

All current faculty, staff, students, and library card holders.

What types of resources may be requested?

  • Books
  • Photocopies of journal articles
  • Some dissertations and theses
  • Microfiche or microfilm
  • Some audiovisual material

What cannot be requested?

  • Most Reference Materials
  • Entire issues of journals or magazines
  • Some copyright restrictions may limit items as well.

Requesting Books

Requesting Journal Articles

1. JOURNEY to WorldCat
From the Library Website:
▪Under Tab: "Research"
▪Choose: "Find other Libraries"
▪Click: "WorldCat"

2. CREATE An Account
In WorldCat:
▪Click: "My Account"
▪Click: "New User Registration"
▪Submit: Requested Information*

*Choose a username/password easy to remember.
*Don't forget to give contact informaion.
*Creating an account allows you to check on your book's status.

* You must log in before searching for items in order for the program to remember your requests.

3. REQUEST Books
In WorldCat:
▪Log into: "My Account"
▪Search: For Books and other items
▪Click: Item Record
▪Click: ILL Icon or "borrow this item from another library link"

▪Fill in: Any necessary info fields*
* Please make sure to enter patron status from drop down menu!

▪Click: SUBMIT

You may choose any option below:
Bring a printed citation to the circulation desk

Ask for an ILL form at the circulation desk. 

Call in your requests - 594-6017

E-mail requests to ILL ~
ill @roberts.edu.

Include your name, E-mail, phone number and
borrowing status*

*faculty, staff, undergraduate, or graduate student
Graduate students, also include your program (NES,MSW,MEd, etc.)

How will I know when my ILL material has arrived?

  • The ILL staff will e-mail you at your Roberts E-mail address unless you request otherwise.
  • The items will be held at the circulation desk for pickup.
  • Most Articles will be sent via e-mail.
  • Photocopies may be sent via campus mail- ONLY if indicated on request.

How long may I keep ILL materials?

  • Articles are yours to keep.
  • Books and other formats have a due date assigned to them by the Lending Library.The loan period is generally 2-4 weeks.
  • Microfiche or film must be used in the library.

May I renew materials?

  • We do not have the right to automatically renew items. Place a request for renewal before the due date so that we can request a renewal date from the lending library. If the library refuses to renew the item, you will need to return it by the original due date.

Is there a charge for ILL?

  • Generally no. If the lending library would impose a charge,
    the ILL staff will contact you for approval before entering the request.
  • $ If there is a charge, you will need to pay the fee when you pick up the item. Charges can range from $5.00 - $50.00

How long does it take to receive ILL materials?

  • The library staff tries to enter requests within 24 hours of receiving them, except for weekends or holidays.
  • Once the request is entered in the system, most items are received within 4 days to 2 weeks.
  • Media materials, dissertations and newer books may take longer.

  If I tell the staff that the material is available at a particular local library, will the item come from that library? 

  • Perhaps, although it may be easier to obtain the material from another location.

Is there a limit on the number of ILL requests?

  • Each patron may submit up to 20 requests at one time.
  • Please limit media requests (CDs and DVDs) to 5 at one time.
  • Due to copyright restrictions, no more than 5 articles per journal title

How do I return materials?

  • Return on or before the date due.
  • Return to the attendant at the circulation desk.
  • Please do not return the items either through campus mail or the drop box.

What happens if I don’t return materials on time?

  • Our relationship with the lending library may be jeopardized resulting in no further ILL requests being filled by that library.
  • You are responsible to pay any fine the lending library sets for overdue items.
  • You are responsible for any damaged or lost material and will need to pay for the repair or replacement.
  • You may lose ILL privileges for a determined length of time.
