Software is a program the runs on your computer, Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, and PowerCAMPUS are all examples of computer software.

If you believe there is something wrong with your computer software, check the list below. If you cannot find your problem then please contact us.

Software Troubleshooting

Problem Try this...
Computer runs slow If you haven't restarted in a while reboot the computer.

Another common problem that slows down computer is extraneous software. If you have installed third-party software (e.g. iTunes) consider going into "Add/Remove Programs" and removing the software from your machine.

Yet another cause of slow operation can be a full hard disk. If you have a files on your computer that you no longer need, consider backing them up and then deleting them from your computer.
Getting an error message Note time, the program you were using and the computer you are on (e.g. if you are in a lab). Write down the entire error message and call the Help Desk.
Cannot use the Internet or send email Check to make sure that your network is cable is plugged into the back of your computer (you sould see blinking lights where you plug it in). Check to make sure that the network cable is plugged into the wall and/or phone. If this looks OK, we may be experiencing a temporary network problem. If it persists for more than 10 minutes then contact the Help Desk.
I'm getting the error "Windows cannot open this file:" You may not have the correct program installed on your computer to open the file. Check to make sure that the proper software is installed upon your computer.
Program: Internet Explorer
My browser is telling me that it blocked a pop-up when I click on a link. To bypass the pop-up blocker hold down the CTRL key when you click on the link.
The text on the web page is too small to read. Hold down CTRL and press the + key until the text is the appropriate size.
Program: Microsoft Outlook
Cannot send email The network may be experiencing problems. Wait 10 minutes. If you are still experiencing difficulties after that time, then please contact the Help Desk.
Program: Contribute
Cannot edit web site You may not have properly installed your "connection key". Request a new connection key for your web site from the web site administrator.

If you can being to edit, but cannot save your changes you may not have the proper permissions. Contact the web site administrator.
