In his role as Co-PI and director of the SC STEPs to STEM program, Dr. Michael Schillaci has recently co-authored two papers in the broad area of STEM education and program planning and assessment. This grant work is supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and focuses on the recruitment and retention of transfer students from two- or four-year institutions and aims to help these students complete their four-year degrees by building a sense of community through both academic and social activities, like internships, guest lectures, and specialized classes. The program is currently in South Carolina and Dr. Schillaci plans to apply for continuing funding to help bring a similar program to Roberts Wesleyan College.
