Greetings from Dr. Julie Grimm

Roberts is an exciting place to be these days!   The College just inaugurated a new President, Dr. Deana Porterfield.   Coming to us from Azusa Pacific University in California, Dr. Porterfield brings 26 years of experience in higher education, most recently having served as Executive Vice President of Azusa Pacific Online University. Perhaps you’ve seen her blog or followed her on Twitter.   The campus is energized by her vision of hope for the future and her optimism.   Dr. Porterfield has been welcoming student groups to meet in the newly renovated meeting space in the lower level of the President’s home!   And, speaking of students, Roberts just welcomed its second largest incoming class in the history of the College!   The Science and Nursing majors on campus are anxiously awaiting the completion of their new building.   From my 4th Floor window in Carpenter Hall, I can see the building project as it changes almost on a daily basis.   God is truly blessing Roberts Wesleyan College.

It’s also exciting to be in the Psychology Department at Roberts Wesleyan!   We are in the very early stages of exploring the possibility of offering a doctoral degree in Psychology.   Perhaps you participated in our student or alumni survey about this exciting new possibility!   No – we don’t have a program yet, but we are looking at the process involved to be able to offer such a degree.   Because this could be the first doctoral degree at Roberts, there is much to do to get New York State approval to offer this kind of advanced degree.   Dr. Cheryl Repass has been working on a possible curriculum for this program, which would likely be focused on Clinical and School Psychology.   Stay tuned for updates on our progress!

As we approach the winter months, we are reminded of the approach of Advent, and God’s marvelous provision of His son!   What an unspeakable gift!   It is such a privilege to work at an institution where our Hope in Christ can shine a light on everything we do.   Being able to daily look at the interface of faith and Psychology is such a blessing – especially as I watch our students see the richness of this kind of integration.   If you know of a student who could benefit from this kind of learning environment, please let us know!   And, if we haven’t heard from you lately, why not send us an e-mail and give us an update?   We’d love to hear from you!

Blessings and God’s Peace—

Dr. Julie Grimm
