Back to Roberts Wesleyan College

The Davison Gallery opened its doors in the atrium of the Cultural Life Center in the fall of 1996, made possible by the generous donation of Maxine B. Davison, in honor of her late husband, Donald F. Davison.

The Cultural Life Center gala opening activities began on Thursday, November 7, with a private dinner at the college president's home, followed by a preview tour given by Professor Loren Baker (then-chair of the Art Department).

A reception the following evening, Friday, November 8, included a string quartet, a formal recognition of Maxine Davison, and a ribbon cutting ceremony with President and Mrs. Crothers, Dr. John Martin, Professor Loren Baker, members of the Art Department faculty, and artist Patricia Dazell.

Owners of the Ogden Telephone Company, Maxine and Donald gave several large gifts to the college in their 50 years of faithful philanthropic support. Mrs. Davison funded the gallery to honor her husband's love of the visual arts.

Mrs. Davison died Sunday, October 10, 2004 at the age of 92.

Professor Loren Baker served as the founding director of the Davison Gallery until fall 2004. Kathrine Page served as gallery director from 2004 - 2011.
