THR 201
History of Theater [Lecture] (3.0)
(Liberal Arts)
This course will examine theater from its early origins in primitive societies to contemporary types of theater and issues in dramatic presentation. The role of theater in society and in a variety of cultures is examined. (Offered alternate years)

THR 210
Acting I [Lecture] (3.0)

This course will cover fundamental vocabulary for developing the actor's craft, process and technique. The vocabulary is Stanislavski-based as it compares to a variety of physical theater techniques. These techniques are explored through improvisation and simple monologue work. This course leads into script analysis. (Offered alternate years)

Script Analysis [Lecture] (3.0)
(Liberal Arts)
This course explores the prominent questions an actor/dancer/designer must research before and during the time a text can develop into playable action. The course uses texts from world literature, popular culture and choreography. Particular attention is paid to the physical, emotional and mental actions a character reveals to his or her audience. (Offered alternate years)

Stage Craft [Lecture] (3.0)

This project-oriented course focuses on the analysis and creative process used to create set/costume/prop and lighting designs. Projects will encourage hands-on work in creating materials to be used in current College productions. (Offered alternate years)

THR 450
Theater Practicum [Practicum] (1.0-3.0)

This component of the course work required for a Theater minor will apply technical, performing, script analysis, stage management and related skills to an actual production. Students must contract with a faculty mentor for responsibilities and appropriate credit expectations. (Offered on demand)

THR 495
Independent Study [Independent Study] (1.0-3.0)

Independent study provides opportunity to pursue advanced or special-interest topics not covered in the curriculum. Prerequisites: 1. Junior standing. 2. A minimum of 9 semester hours in the discipline of the Independent Study. 3. A minimum grade point average of 2.50 in the discipline. 4. Proof of motivation and ability to work independently. 5. Approval of the department in which the study is to be taken. 6. Permission from the student's advisor, the course instructor, the Department Chair, the Academic Dean, and the Registrar.
