Social media helping future olympics? (L. Albert)

“The 2012 Summer Olympics, dubbed the Social Games by many before their start, have been dominated by social media and story lines related to it. Sites such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram have connected people from all over the world instantly and given fans a sneak peek into Olympian life at the same time.” Some have been positive, and others not so good. From athletes getting into trouble from controversial tweets, to one gold medalists getting bashed because of how her hair was worn, people were talking about the olympics in some form of  social media. With Michael Phelps retiring after this olympics, some people are worried that fans will not tune in for the next olympics because he will not be competing. But many other athletes have taken o social media to connect with fans and gain new ones. This way, the athletes will be able to connect with their fans and the fans can follow them on their next journey and root for them in the next olympic games!
