Raider Hall of Famer Merl McGinnis ’83 joined the Roberts Athletics staff this fall as track and field coach. Both McGinnis and his wife of 23 years, Angela Jimenez McGinnis ’83, excelled at track and field as students here. Merl was also a stand-out basketball player and recipient of the Ken Curtis Award.
This is not Coach McGinnis’ first stint back at his alma mater. He coached the women’s cross country and track teams in 1984-85, 1985-86, and 1987-88, leading the first Roberts women’s cross country team ever to NAIA Nationals in 1985. He was also named NAIA District Coach of the Year in 1985 for cross country.
After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Roberts, Coach McGinnis earned a Master of Science in Education/Mathematics from SUNY Fredonia in 1994. He has taught math at Jamestown Community College for the past 18 years. He has also coached track and basketball at Falconer Central School for the past four years
Merl and Angela have three sons: Michael, a freshman at RWC; Andrew, a junior in high school; and Aaron, who is in eighth grade. The McGinnises are in the process of moving to the Rochester area. |
