RWC Hurdlers Take Top Two Spots at NCCAA National Track Championships

Hurdlers Kelsey Medeiros and Natalie Wetherwax surprised everyone at the NCCAA National Track Championships at Taylor University in Upland, IN.  Going into the meet they were seeded 3rd and 6th respectively.  After the prelims they were 1st and 5th and in the finals they finished 1st and 2nd.  Kelsey Medeiros’ time of 14.62 broke the college record set by Jen Stuczynski in 2004 (14.66).

Natalie Wetherwax’s time of 14.94 ranks her #3 in school history.
Both of these girls did well in other events too. Natalie finished third in the pole vault with a height of 3.28m (10’ 9”) and Kelsey placed 4th in the 100m with a time of 12.58.  Both were also on the 5th place 4x100 relay team (50.74) along with Corrie Ingraham and Morgan Eastlack and the 7th place 4x400 relay team with Corrie Ingraham and Kendra Zaffuto.  The 4x400 team set a school record (4:06.75) surpassing the mark set by the 2004 team.

Corrie Ingraham and Kendra Zaffuto also scored for the team.  Corrie was 5th in the 400IH with a time of 1:05.70.  In the prelims she set a school record of 1:05.51 beating the mark set by Jen Stuczynski in 2003.  Kendra Zaffuto ran a 2:18.22 to place 6th in the 800m.
The team placed 8th out of 18 teams.  This was very respectful as most of the seniors did not go due to graduation.

On the men’s side, junior, Dan Foley jumped 1.95m (6’ 4 ¾”) to take third in the high jump. Junior, Andrew Saff ran a personal best in the prelims of the 400IH (56.02) and came back and placed 8th in the finals (56.61).  The men’s 4x100 (Ross Doucette, Alif Bland, Andrew Saff and Dave Johnson) and 4x400 (Ross Doucette, Bryan Picciotto, Andrew Saff and Dave Johnson) both made it to finals and placed 7th and 8th respectively.

The team came home with 4 NCCAA All-Americans (Natalie Wetherwax – HH & PV, Kelsey Medeiros – HH and Dan Foley – HJ) and 3 school records (women’s HH, IH and 4x400).  The next meet is Friday, May 14 at the Gator Invitational at Allegheny College in Meadville, PA for those who will be representing Roberts Wesleyan at the NAIA National Championships on May 27-29.
