Alumni In The News!

Wednesday, June 13, 2007, Adidas athlete Jennifer Stuczynski was featured on 13 WHAM News This Morning.  Jennifer is the new American Record Holder in the women’s pole vault. Jennifer accomplished this after jumping 16’ at the Reebok Grand Prix in New York City June 2, 2007.  She is the first American woman to clear 16’ and only the 3rd in the world to make this monumental height.  She was recently featured in the USA Today, NY Times and Sports Illustrated while making ESPN’s Top Ten Plays.  Jennifer has arguably become the most recognizable female from the United States track and field community.  A Rochestarian and Roberts Wesleyan alumni, Jennifer is making the local community proud as she moves closer to her goal of winning an Olympic gold medal.

RWC SIFE Team News

Roberts SIFE team is having “a year of second place” at national competition in Dallas, Texas. At the opening ceremony on Sunday, Roberts took second place overall in the Anti-Piracy Public Service Announcement competition. The following morning, our team competed at 9:15 a.m. in the opening round, where they took second place. While this didn't allow them to advance in the competition, we are all very proud of the team and their accomplishments.

Left to right: Kelly Lupo – Freshman, Communications Major; Seth Donald - Senior, Computer Science Major; Katie Dyksen – Senior, Graphic Arts Major; Josh Lowery - Freshman, Physical Education Major

Seth Donald produced and entered a public service announcement contest sponsored by the Motion Picture Association of America through the 2007 SIFE National Competition in Dallas, Texas, May 6-8. He won second place, and his 60 second PSA was played before the SIFE National Competition audience. He was publicly recognized and awarded $2,000 and a certificate. Katie, Kelly, and Josh were on his team and helped write, produce, and acted in the PSA.

This team of 75 of Roberts’ finest students made a difference this year in thousands of lives, both locally and nationally. As a dedicated team they:

  • Raised over $7,500 for the establishment of a restaurant in Kenya that will support ministry to street children.
  • Provided over 100 books in Spanish to expand the reading library RWC SIFE previously established at a remote village in Guatemala.
  • Made it possible, paying 3/4 of the teachers’ salaries, for children in the same remote Guatemalan village to have in-village education past 6th grade.
  • Taught almost every incoming freshman at Roberts about establishing healthy personal finance habits.
  • Gave instruction in personal finance and retirement investment options to local employees of Cintas Corporation.
  • Served as consultants for several local businesses.
  • Taught hundreds of elementary school children the basics of running a business through a fun, hands-on program called BizWorld.
  • Presented their own adaptation of the BizWorld project to educators at a teachers’ conference.
  • Hosted an International Fair for local public and home-schooled children, exposing them to the culture (cuisine, music, dress, crafts, currency) of over a dozen countries.
  • Conducted on-campus, week-long business camps, giving up their February break to invest in at-risk high school boys and girls.
  • Hosted an international ethics competition with colleges around the world and in NYS, giving participants a clearer understanding of ethical challenges facing countries other than their own.
  • Conducted an anti-piracy contest with Upstate NY high schools in which the high school teams created and implemented their own anti-piracy campaigns.

 The list goes on…and on…

We’re very proud of our SIFE team!

Alumni Council

The Alumni Council is in the process of meeting with various online alumni community providers . The Roberts alumni community will offer everything to our alumni that is on Facebook and Myspace, and even more! This site would be for Roberts alum and would allow users to create subgroups in the community that would enable them to share information with their Roberts roommates, extra-curricular interest groups, or even alum from your major, for networking purposes.

We feel this would be a huge benefit for our alumni in helping them to stay connected and involved with their alma mater, friends, and even professors. The Alumni Council welcomes your suggestions for what you would like to see on the Roberts online community. Email your suggestions to any of the Alumni Council representatives at Council Members
