Freelancing Hope – New Non-Profit Organization Committed to Providing Safety for the Vulnerable

Amy Smith ‘13 (Master of Social Work) and her husband, Matthew, have started a non-profit organization called freelancing hope.  Their mission is to empower all people to create and sustain environments of safety and flourishing for the vulnerable.

Amy shares, “What brought about this organization is really a process of the work of God in my life, the blessings as well as the death and ashes to which God has brought wholeness and beauty. The mission statement might seem vague at first, especially if people aren't used to thinking about organizations and environments. What this looks like on a daily basis is helping faith-based and youth-serving organizations to develop policies and procedures that will protect children, teens, vulnerable adults, and families from experiencing exploitation.”

Freelancing hope assists with providing organizations, but especially churches and faith-based groups, with policies and training.  They collaborate with other existing organizations like the local child advocacy center Stewards of Children from Darkness to Light.  Darkness to Light was recently featured on the TLC documentary response to the Duggar family 19 Kids and Counting controversy.  Amy is also a part of the Rochester Regional coalition Against Human Trafficking.
