Full-Time Enrollment
Full-time enrollment is defined by registration for 30 semester hours total during consecutive Fall, Spring and Summer Terms, or by 30 semester hours total during consecutive Fall and Spring Terms.
Full-time program enrollment requires intensive involvement normally not possible with other extensive responsibilities. Students should not expect program adjustments on the basis of work responsibilities outside the program.
Part-Time Enrollment
The part-time program requires 60 semester hours over a four-year period. A minimum of 6 semester hours is required for each Fall and Spring term. Summer courses are available to reduce the number of courses required in the first and third years. For additional information, see the Part-Time Admission Criteria.
PACE Enrollment
Selected individual courses may be taken on a nonmatriculated basis. These courses include Social and Cultural Diversity, Social Work Practice and Religion, Social Work Research Methods, Social Welfare Policy, and social work electives. A maximum of 12 hours may be taken on a nonmatriculated basis.
Academic Standards
Grade Point Average
A cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 must be maintained, with no grade less than a B-. Any required course with a grade less than B- will need to be repeated. Elective courses with a grade lower than B- need not be repeated, but no credit will be given toward graduation. Field practice courses which receive less than a B- will be referred to the Social Work Division’s Academic and Professional Evaluation Committee (APEC) for special action, which may include termination from the program. Students whose cumulative GPA falls below 3.0 will be referred to APEC who will act in accordance with the policies identified in the Graduate Student Termination Policy. At a minimum, students with GPAs below 3.0 will be placed on probation. Students who are on academic probation for two consecutive terms will be terminated. At least one term (excluding summer) must transpire before reapplying. (For additional information, please refer to the Graduate Student Termination Policy.)
Attendance Policy
Most courses require class attendance once a week. Attendance at all class sessions and field education hours is expected. Field seminars meet every other week. Applied Social Work Research meets the first three weeks of each term with the remainder of the course taken by internet.
