Master of Music (M.M.) in Music Education
This 30 credit program is designed to lead to a masters degree and Professional Certification in K-12 Music Education for holders of Initial Certification in Music Education. The emphasis of the program is three-fold. Courses dealing with music education methodologies, pedagogy, and curriculum provide a practical framework from which to evaluate curricular issues and classroom procedures. Courses in technology, music theory, conducting, and performance allow for the practical application of enhanced musical skills. Courses in research methods introduce students to the body of research literature in music education and equip students to independently investigate issues related to individual teaching situations. The M.M. in Music Education reflects a vision of teaching excellence that integrates reflective practice, advanced content knowledge, instructional excellence, and ongoing personal and professional growth.
