Dr. Kristyn Kuhlman is currently the Chair of the Division of Music and Performing Arts at Roberts Wesleyan College located in Rochester, NY. As associate professor of music education, she teaches instrumental methods, woodwind methods, and supervises student teachers. She coordinates the graduate program, teaching graduate classes in research, instrumental pedagogy, and foundations of music education. Prior to coming to Roberts Wesleyan College, Dr. Kuhlman served as Assistant Professor of Instrumental Music Education at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey. She has also served as head of Music Education and Instrumental Activities at Iowa Wesleyan college in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Dr. Kuhlman's additional teaching experiences include elementary/secondary instrumental music and elementary general music in both public and private schools in New York and New Jersey. She also spent a year at the High/Scope Educational Research Foundation in Ypsilanti, Michigan working under Phyllis Weikart as a researcher in the areas of music and movement.
Dr. Kuhlman has published studies in Contributions to Music Education, UPDATE: Applications of Research in Music Education, and Visions of Research in Music Education. She also has published articles in the Journal of Band Research, the Southeastern Journal of Research in Music Educatin, TEMPO, and North Carolina Educators. Presentations of her research occurred at the Desert Skies Symposium On Research in Music Education at the University of Arizona, the MENC Eastern Division Conference Research in Baltimore, and the New Directions in Instrumental Music Education Conference at Michigan State University.
