The Roberts Wesleyan College Chorale
Noted for its unique choral sound and a tradition of excellence, the Roberts Wesleyan College Chorale has gained wide acclaim from its professional recordings and appearances. The Chorale has performed with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of David Zinman, Peter Bay, Mitch Miller, Mark Elder, Robert Bernhardt, Christopher Seaman, and Jeff Tyzik. In March 1986, the Chorale performed in New York City’s Carnegie Hall with the Westfield (NJ) Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Beethoven’s only opera, “Fidelio.” The Chorale has also sung with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.
Recordings of the Chorale include Mozart’s Coronation Mass with the RPO and Sacred and Secular Music by Anton Bruckner. Five compact disc recordings of American Music have been released on the Albany label. The Chorale recordings have received favorable reviews in national and international periodicals.
The chorale is comprised of approximately 45 students and tours in the spring during Easter’s Holy Week. From 1969-2002, Robert Shewan conducted the RWC Chorale, leading it on frequent tours and in its many commercial recordings mentioned above. Upon his retirement in 2002, Nelson Hill became the conductor of the ensemble.
