
The undergraduate teacher education programs at Roberts Wesleyan College are small enough to allow you to become acquainted with the faculty and fellow students. You will have an advisor who cares about you and helps you to successfully complete the program. At the same time, because it is such a popular program at our college, we are able to offer comprehensive course offerings.
Undergraduate students who obtain teaching certification in New York State have five years to earn a Masters degree in Education. We have several graduate options for students completing our undergraduate certification programs, offering the opportunity to both hone your teaching skills and advance your content area knowledge.
The mission of Roberts Wesleyan College is to do more than teach content. We feel that those entering the teaching profession should be guided by Christian values.
Our faculty are experienced teachers who have an active relationship with public and private schools. The college is involved in many cooperative programs in area schools.
Here at Roberts, our teacher education students have at least 100 hours of experience in public or private schools prior to student teaching. Those who seek dual certification will have 150 hours.
All of our childhood and special education majors are eligible for both certifications in New York State. This gives our graduates a tremendous advantage in the job market. Our adolescence education majors achieve certification to teach at both the high school and middle school levels.
Our teacher education students have consistently done very well on the New York State Teacher Certification Examinations (NYSTCE's). Since 2003, Robert's alumni have had a 96% passing rate on the New York State Teacher Certification Exams.
Roberts Teacher Education graduates currently hold teaching and administrative positions throughout the world. The program is highly respected.
The Teacher Education Division sponsors the Student Education Association, an organization for undergraduate education majors. Along with social activities, the SEA sponsors monthly meetings featuring speakers and panel discussions to supplement the classroom instruction.
The Teacher Education Division and the College's Career Services office actively work to help our graduates find teaching positions. Each February, we organize and host practice interview sessions with area school administrators. Career Services keeps our students aware of regional teacher recruiting events and supports resume preparation and other aspects of the job search.
