News from the Office of the Chaplain (6/08) returning students

The Chaplain’s Office welcomes you to Roberts Wesleyan College. We are very excited about your arrival on campus and look forward to meeting you personally.  Our hope is that you will allow us to assist you as friend, mentor or pastor, in the next portion of your life’s journey.  This will be a fantastic time of growth as you make new friends, get an excellent education, focus on your life’s occupation and take a really good look at what you believe.  There will be many opportunities for you to explore, begin and/or grow in relationship with Jesus Christ, use your gifts and abilities to impact your world and grow in relationship with others.

The following is a partial list of some of the growth opportunities for your consideration. If you have any questions about these, faith issues, personal issues or anything else, we invite you to stop by the office or give us a call.  Our office number is 585.594.6830.

  • RWC Chapels   This fall there will be 40 chapel opportunities for your spiritual growth with the theme of Worshipful Living. Chapels are designed with a variety of speakers, music and topics which should connect with the needs of our campus and help us all to grow spiritually.
  • RWC Small Group Ministries provide an opportunity for developing close relationships with a small number of students with whom you would meet regularly. This can be your single most important vehicle for personal connection and spiritual growth. If you need help finding a group, give us a call.
  • Student Campus Ministries have been a strong part of our campus life. These ministries have a 3-fold purpose: to minister to the world, our campus and help each participant to grow. The ministries that have been offered include: tutoring in the City of Rochester schools, drama, community outreach, Nursing home ministry, small groups, prison ministries, prayer, gospel choir, ‘Foot’, dance, “In Jesus Name” (an inner city ministry), Acting on AIDS, Habitat for Humanity and Campus Crusade for Christ.
  • Short Term Missions are fast becoming one of the most powerful ways of making a difference in our world. This year we are planning trips to Lima, Peru; Dublin, Ireland; Dominican Republic; Jackson, Kentucky and Mississippi.

The Word of God tells us in the book of Jeremiah, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” Jer. 29:11. As you read over this material and make your final plans to arrive on campus, we pray you will see God’s plan for you unfold and become reality. Until we meet, may God guide and keep you in His perfect peace.

In Christ,
