Letter from SA President

Dear Students,

As you read this letter, I hope that you are enjoying some rest and relaxation after this past year at school. I also hope that whether you are working, vacationing, or taking summer classes or internships, you are finding time to get refreshed and energized for another great year at Roberts! My name is Brett Walsh; I am majoring in Communication and concentrating in History and Pre-Law, and I will be a senior at Roberts this year. Additionally, I have the privilege of representing your voice at Roberts by serving you as the 2008-2009 Student Association (SA) President.

At some point during your time at Roberts you’ve probably heard a bit about SA. Student Association puts on a variety of campus-wide events at our school. This includes intramural sports, talent shows, movies, formals, bonfires, coffeehouses, game show nights and much more. Although most students have participated in one event or another, few know exactly how SA works. It is my hope that this year students will become more familiar with the inner workings of SA so that they can become more involved and better benefited by its presence. Let me try to explain what happens behind the scenes.

Every student at Roberts is technically a member of the Student Association, so that includes you! However, there is a group of about 35 students who have leadership roles in SA and make sure that the rest of the student body gets the most out of their college experiences. SA includes an Executive Cabinet, with a president, vice president, campus ministries director, administrative assistant, finance director, senate chair, and social life director. Basically, the Executive Cabinet keeps the rest of the SA leaders organized and on task. In addition to the Executive Cabinet is the Inter-Class Council (ICC), which consists of all the class officers. Each class has a president, vice president, administrative assistant, and treasurer. These officers plan social activities for students and also bring concerns of students to the attention of the administration. Finally, the rest of SA includes The Beacon (school newspaper), the Chesbronian (yearbook), Intramural Sports (like floor hockey, volleyball, dodge ball, etc.), Senate (voice your concerns and make a difference), Social Life (plans fun campus-wide events), and Public Relations (publicizes social events and SA).

All of the above mentioned groups have committees that you can join. If you are interested in becoming more involved, look for posters and information at the beginning of the year, or get in touch with me or one of your class officers. During the past few years SA has worked hard to increase the number of events available to students, including campus-wide activities. In the coming year, I would like to continue to increase the diversity and advertisement of different activities on and off-campus and I would like to see students better represented in the Senate.

God has great plans in store for us and I am excited to see how He works through Student Association this year! If you have any questions or are interested in becoming more involved, please contact me. Enjoy the rest of your summer; I look forward to seeing you this fall!

Yours,

Brett Walsh
President of the Student Association

But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other.  If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.  Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
