Physical Therapist
Employer: Arc of Livingston Wyoming

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

             

o        Reviews medical reports, psychological reports, social history and other pertinent records of referred children.

o        Evaluates children, including observation of student and administration of standardized/non-standardized procedures, in order to identify performance levels.

o        Evaluates gross motor skills, reflex development, developmental milestones, range of motion, musculoskeletal and neuromuscular components of motor abilities, posture, balance, gait analysis, and the effectiveness of treatment for future planning.

o        Analysis and synthesizes evaluation results to develop therapy goals and treatment plans.

o        Implements therapy program including principles of neurodevelopmental treatment, sensory-motor development, myofascial release and functional motor skills.

o        Prepares, presents and coordinates annual goals and short term performance objectives of the therapy program as a part of the IEP and IFSP and in conjunction with the classroom team program.

o        Determines need for, fabricates or recommends appropriate adaptive equipment, orthoses and devices needed by the child to enhance performance abilities and instructs the child, family and staff in its proper use. If needed, assists families in ordering equipment.

o        Maintains records which are dated and signed by the therapist, including an initial evaluation, annual evaluation, documentation of treatments provided, progress made, and upon discharge a summary of treatment results, reason for discharge and follow-up recommendations.

o        Maintains records regarding consultation with physicians, family and staff.

o        Suggest adaptations to the child’s environment to ensure proper positioning and maximal function in school and home, and for ease of access.

o        Keeps abreast of legal responsibilities, professional ethics, standards of practice, agency policies, rules and regulations.

o        Maintains current certification or licensure as required by state regulations.

  • Provides supervision for assistants as needed in the implementation of PT practice including countersigning reports and documentation of service.

 

 MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Conducts self so as to best contribute to, promote and implement the mission, philosophy and policies of the agency.

 

  • Participates in meetings regarding students and programs.

 

  • Prepares and presents home programs for the family.

 

  • Encourages the child to actively participate in purposeful activities to enhance the development of gross motor skills, functional mobility, neuromuscular functioning, strength and endurance.

 

  • Provides and participates in in-service educational programs related to therapy principles and concepts.

 

  • Maintains therapy department’s materials, equipment and inventory.

 

  • Provides for own professional growth by attending seminars, conferences, courses and in-services.

 

  • Orients and instructs assistants, aides, volunteers and interns.

 

  • Attends department meetings and monthly Staff meetings.

 

  • Completes other tasks as requested by the Program Director.

 

 

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

o        Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with parents and adults.

 

o        Stand, sit, kneel, stoop, lift moderate weight, and manipulate children most of the day.

 

o        Demonstrates ability to drive and possess a valid drivers license.

 

o        Ability to lift 40 – 60 pounds.

 

 

POSITION PREREQUISITES:

 

o        Education-                   Masters Degree in Physical Therapy, or equivalent. NYS Licensure in Physical Therapy.

 

o        Experience -              Previous experience working with pediatrics or multiple handicapped adults is desirable. Must demonstrate knowledge of NDT (neuro-developmental therapy), MFR (myofascial release), and the principles of normal development.

 

o        Skills-                        Valid drivers license.
