Getting started—the Admissions Process for Homeschooled Students

Take the SAT/ACT during your junior year of high school—the SAT/ACT play a vital role in the admissions process for all students, but especially for homeschooled students.  This is comparative data that the admissions office can use in making admissions decisions.

Visit Campus during your junior year or early in your senior year—it is not a requirement for admission to Roberts Wesleyan College, but strongly encouraged that students and their parents visit campus.  This gives you a chance to “interview” the college as well as give your admissions counselor a chance to get to know you.  This will provide you the opportunity to let your admissions counselor know what your homeschool curriculum and extra curricular activities have entailed.

Complete the Application for Admission—request a paper copy of the application or complete the online application.  The primary educator should complete the Guidance Counselor Recommendation.  Be sure your parent is as thorough as possible when compiling your high school transcript.  The Personal Recommendation Form must be completed by someone other than a family member—preferably your pastor or youth pastor.

The Financial Aid Process—Visit the Financial Aid web site for more information on Financial Aid.  New York residents wishing to receive TAP (Tuition Assistance Program-state grant) need to demonstrate the “Ability to Benefit” from higher education.  Presently, the SAT and ACT are not acceptable ATB tests.  G.E.D. or high school diplomas (from a school registered with the state of New York) are accepted, as are passing scores on one of several basic skills tests.  See the Federal Student Aid web site for a complete list of ATB tests. [ view web site ]. Roberts Wesleyan College offers the Accuplacer (an ATB approved test) on campus for the convenience of our New York state homeschooled students.
