BSW Program Goals

The following program goals of the Baccalaureate Social Work Program at Roberts Wesleyan College have been developed based on the College’s Mission Statement, the Mission of the Division of Social Work and Social Sciences, and the CSWE Curriculum Policy statement.

  1. The principal goal of the BSW program is to prepare students for value sensitive, ethically-based generalist social work practice.
  2. The program will provide a liberal arts foundation that enables students to understand the world with a holistic perspective about themselves, society, the world, and their Creator.
  3. The program will empower students to think critically and integrate social work, history, knowledge, values, research, and skills as they work with systems of various sizes and types.
  4. The program will prepare graduates who are able to work sensitively and effectively in multiple contexts with diverse populations including the low-income and others who are at-risk.
  5. The program will prepare students who are able to identify multiple causes of problems, the nature and dynamics of change, and strategies for bringing about social and economic justice.
  6. The program will provide a learning context that respectfully explores the Christian perspective, its contributions to social work education, and its relationship to social work practice.
  7. The program will provide a stimulating and challenging educational experience that is personal, interactive, and responsive to students with faculty who are role models as professionals and Christians.
  8. The program will instill in students a commitment to life-long learning, and provide preparation for graduate education.
