Hi my name is Nina Fernandez; I am a Communication major with a Pre-Law emphasis. I decided to study at the American Studies Program in Washington, D.C last spring. Having the first had experience of living eight blocks away from the Capitol building was incredible! The program was set up in a way where each student took eight credits of Political Science. These classes involved studying current domestic and international policy. Each student also took eight credits toward an internship. My internship landed me at the Embassy of Sweden, which was a fabulous experience! Again, being able to put firsthand what I had learned in the classroom and go out and witness and practice such lessons on the field—in the middle of Washington, D.C.—was incredible! I also made some life-long friends and grew a lot personally. I learned many lessons about justice and shalom and how to reconcile politics with our faith. Previously, I have also had the opportunity to live and study abroad internationally. To draw a comparison between an international program and a domestic program, I feel that both are just as rich and can add an element of adventure, excitement, and refreshment to anyone’s academic career. So, if you are thinking about studying abroad, I would definitely recommend doing so and I would definitely recommend the American Studies Program!
