Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is the cost?

    The cost for MSW program is $540.00 per credit hour, for the 2007-2008 school year.

  2. How many credits is the program?

    The total number of credits to complete the MSW program:

    60 credits – regular program (offered part-time or full-time)
    38 credits – Advanced Standing program (offered part-time or full-time)

  3. How many field placements are there?

    If you are in the regular program there will be 2 field placements and if you are in the advanced standing program there will be one field placement.

    1st year = 14-15 hours per week
    2nd year = 17-18 hours per week

    These internships are from September thru April.  If you are part-time the Internships would be your second and fourth years.

  4. Do you have any paid internships?

    Internships in most all cases are not paid.  If you have questions regarding   available paid internships, please contact the Director of Field Education.

  5. Can I do my internship where I currently work?

    While it is preferable and encouraged that your Internship be at an agency     setting that is not your place of employment, it is possible to have your   Internship in your place of work. However, it must be in a different role and not in your paid position.  You must have an MSW supervisor who has been an MSW for at least two years, as your field instructor.  A request must be submitted in writing and be approved by our Director of Field, Luis Perez.

  6. What concentrations do you offer?

    There are three concentrations:

    Child and Family Services
    Mental Health Services


  7. Do you offer any financial aid?

    Financial Aid is available in the form of Stafford Loans (subsidized and           unsubsidized) all applicants must fill out a FASFA form.  In most all cases,      applicants will qualify for up to $20,500 per year (if full-time).  This will cover tuition, books and fees.  If you are a matriculated, part-time student, it will be pro-rated accordingly.

  8. What are the qualifications for the advanced standing program?

    Qualifications for Advanced Standing:

    A graduate of an accredited BSW program
    Graduated within the last 10 years and working in the field of Social Work.
    CUM GPA = 3.25 or higher

  9. What are the qualifications for the regular program?

    Regular MSW program

    A four-year undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university.
    CUM GPA = 2.75 or higher.

  10. What are the prerequisite courses for admissions to the MSW program?

    Introduction to Psychology
    Introduction to Sociology
    Statistics or Research Methods
    9 – 12 credits of Humanities (i.e. English, Writing, Speech, History, etc.)
    Human Biology (or a Human Science) – recommended, but not required

  11. Do you have campus housing?

    For the most part, there is no on-campus housing available to Graduate students.
