Religious Studies, B.A. degree

The major in Religious Studies provides students with a general overview of world religions in a pluralistic world. This program prepares students for a variety of educational and career objectives, including graduate work in religion or the social sciences, careers where knowledge of the international religious diversity is necessary (from business to diplomacy and beyond), and work with international aid and mission agencies.  The program is built on the strengths of the college in Religion and the Humanities, but adds components designed to strengthen the global and national awareness of students.  Accordingly, it also prepares students to be responsible global citizens in an international age.

The major requires a total of 39 semester hours which include 15 hours of core credits in history, philosophy and theology, 18 hours in world religions (e.g. Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc.) and 6 additional hours in philosophy.

Religion-Philosophy, B.A. degree

The Religion-Philosophy (RPH) major offers students a firm grounding in biblical studies, theology, and philosophy. The major is recommended for students whose goal is professional ministry or the teaching of religious studies or philosophy. It provides a solid basis for graduate study at a university or seminary. Students intending to seek ordination immediately after college or those planning to become involved in ministry while pursuing graduate education should also obtain a minor in ministry. The Religion-Philosophy major requires 39 semester hours including a 15 hour core in philosophy and theology, and 15 hours in Bible, plus course in the history of philosophy, church history and upper-division theology.
