Humanities, B.A. degree

The entire Division contributes to a major in Humanities. The Humanities major is designed primarily to serve two types of students: those who are drawn in interest and ability to the study of the humanities and those whose future specialization would be enhanced by a multiplicity of academic experiences in the humanities, e.g., those interested in library science, law, journalism, politics, teaching, etc.

Major Requirements: 45 hours as follows:

  • a 21-hour concentration from one of the following disciplines: Art, Communication, History, Language, Literature, Music, Philosophy-Religion (BIB/PHL/THE only);
  • a 9-hour emphasis from one of the remaining disciplines above or composition, fine arts, theatre and women's studies
  • two 6-hour emphases from the remaining disciplines above;
  • one 3-hour elective from any of the disciplines listed above.
