ENGLISH, B.A. degree
ENGLISH 5-12, B.S. degree

C. Harold Hurley, Ph.D., Program Director

Students majoring in English (ENG) specialize in the study of literature and select additional courses, or a minor, to prepare for such careers as teaching or professional writing. The major requires a total of 39 semester hours in communication, composition, and literature.

The English Adolescence Ed (AEDENG) major is designed specifically for students interested in teaching English at the junior high/high school level. The English component of the major is almost identical to the straight English major, but students are also required to complete 40 semester hours in Education as specified by the Teacher Education Division. Students work closely with an advisor in the English department as well as an advocate in the Teacher Education Division to ensure that all certification requirements are met.

From the Director…

The English Program at RWC gives attention to classic writers like Shakespeare, Milton, Chaucer, and it provides students with improved communication skills that can be used in a variety of positions and as preparation for graduate school.
