'01 Teaching Assistant,
Communication

I'm really appreciative of the strong theoretical base in the Communication Program. Another thing I appreciate about both Dr. Berry's and Dr. Stewart's teaching styles is that there is a lot of room for class discussion and throwing around of important issues in the current communication debates. Since both of them keep up to date with what is happening now, we are able to draw from that knowledge and tie it to observations we make on a daily basis. Overall, I feel really well prepared for going into the job market and being able to manage time and relationships successfully. The vigorous workload has given me a good work ethic and made me confident about the future. I think communication is one of the most practical and marketable degrees!

I appreciate the fact that the major combines a broad theoretical base with concentrations that are specific to the particular interests of each student. Really, it's pretty much a custom-designed major; the courses that I take from other academic disciplines complement the core courses that all Communication majors take. I enjoy the flexibility that comes with being a Communication major--both in the areas of schedule building and in career opportunities. I can choose any number of career tracks or post-graduate areas of study. Because of the background that I have received as a Communication major at Roberts, I know that I am poised with the tools for success.

The Communication Major at Roberts is an incredible program. The professors and course material are challenging, and what we study is particularly relevant to our lives. The major encourages critical thinking and application of theories to real situations. As a student near graduation, I feel well prepared to continue my studies and to enter the workforce. I also feel like I can be a good citizen in our ever-changing society. What I have learned through my studies has challenged me and made me a better person in all areas, not just in my communication skills.

The Communication Program at Roberts really challenges you, but when the semester is over and you look back to see what you have accomplished, it feels good. You can then say that it was worth it.
